Police officer killed in head-on crash involving DNR vehicle in Town of Albion in Dane County

ALBION, Wisconsin -- A 33-year-old McFarland police officer was killed in a crash in the Town of Albion Monday, November 23rd.

It happened around noon on County Highway N.

Authorities said the officer had just started his shift. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said a 25-year-old Fitchburg woman was traveling eastbound on County Highway N, when she crossed the centerline and hit the squad car head-on.

The woman is a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources employee and was driving a Ford F250 pick-up truck belonging to the Wisconsin DNR.

The 25-year-old was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Janesville with minor injuries.

The Dane County Sheriff's Office is investigating what caused her to cross the centerline. Officials said citations are pending.

The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office will release the officer's name following an autopsy.

Deputies and detectives are helping the officer's department while his partners and coworkers mourn his death.
