14-year-old boy dies following crash near 69th & Hampton; 15-year-old boy was driving



MILWAUKEE -- A 14-year-old boy seriously injured in a crash near 69th and Hampton Avenue on Saturday, November 21st died at the hospital later that same day, according to Milwaukee police. Police say the vehicle was being operated by a 15-year-old boy.

The driver was hospitalized for his injuries -- treated and released. Two others received minor injuries in the crash.

We're told the 15-year-old driver is no longer in police custody. Family members and friends say he and all of those involved are still dealing with the physical and emotional pain of what happened.

Daquan Nichols



Police say shortly after midnight, an SUV was headed westbound on Hampton at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and collided with a tree. The initial investigation revealed the 14-year-old victim, identified as Daquan Nichols, was the passenger in a vehicle being operated by a 15-year-old boy.

Nichols was pronounced dead 8:20 p.m. on Saturday at Children’s Hospital.

Police say there were a total of four people in the vehicle -- including the driver, the boy who eventually passed away, and two others.

Milwaukee police will present the case against the 15-year-old driver to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. He was arrested for operating without a license, causing great bodily harm.

Because of his age, MPD cannot seek charges within the adult system. He has been released to his parents, and this case will be handled in children's court.

A GoFundMe.com account has been established for the 14-year-old victim. On that page, family members wrote: "Daquan as a very smart young man with lots of friends and family whom has supported him and his mother through this tragedy.  He will always be with us in our hearts. He left behind one sister and one brother who looked up to him."
