Newly commissioned, USS Milwaukee departs city for its home port of San Diego

USS Milwaukee departs the city

MILWAUKEE -- After a weekend commissioning, the USS Milwaukee left the Port of Milwaukee on Monday morning, November 23rd.

The USS Milwaukee (LCS 5) was built in Marinette. It is the fifth U.S. naval ship bearing the city's name, but just the first to be built in Wisconsin.

On Saturday, Governor Scott Walker handed over a Wisconsin flag to fly on the vessel -- and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said the ship will signify the character of the city it's named after.

The USS Milwaukee's home port will be San Diego, California.
