Developing: Natural gas leak shuts down a portion of Fort Atkinson

FORT ATKINSON -- A natural gas leak shut down about a one-mile stretch through Fort Atkinson on Wednesday, November 25th. As of Wednesday night, six businesses remained without power as crews plan to work through the night to fix the leak.

This all started just after 10:00 a.m. when a private company installing new gas lines near Janesville Avenue punctured a gas main and caused a leak.

Crews managed to stop the leak for a couple of hours. But later, the Fort Atkinson Fire Department confirmed that the leak was detected for a second time in the day.

As of Wednesday night, crews were still working to repair the leak.

Several business were evacuated as a precaution on Wednesday. Some of those business owners had no choice but to close for the day.

We Energies officials say everyone should be back up and running by Thursday morning.
