Fans from coast to coast gather in Green Bay to hear stories from Brett Favre

GREEN BAY -- Before Brett Favre addresses the crowd Thanksgiving night at Lambeau Field, some Packers fans got to hear #4 share a couple stories in Green Bay Thursday afternoon.

To this day, some Packers fans still describe Brett Favre as a savior.

"I grew up watching Bart Starr and Ray Nitchske and those boys and he just brought us out of that 30-year drought," said Mike Buggs, lives in Virginia, grew up in Janesville.

Favre himself struggles to find the best words to describe his feelings, just hours before his name is unveiled on the Lambeau Field Ring of Honor.

"To have your jersey retired in the most historic of franchises in all of sports - the Yankees can maybe rival that - you think about the great players that played here, man, it's endless. The Hall of Fame here in Green Bay is (applause)," said Favre.

The opportunity to hear Favre in a smaller setting attracts fans who already came a long way to get to Green Bay.

"I've been in Hawaii for 26 years, raised all my kids there. I have two grandsons who love to say Go Pack Go!" said Michele Wood, lives in Hawaii, grew up in Whitefish Bay.

"Lambeau Field against the Bears has always been on my bucket list and when I found out about retiring Brett Favre, I was like, this has to be the one," said Bruce Wayne Lambert II, Packers fan stationed in Hawaii.

While a silent auction of Favre memorabilia drew a long line, everyone was there to hear the man himself.

"Two nights ago, I was taking out the trash - and it's funny how you think about things at an awkward time - I was carrying the trash out and I was like, I'm getting ready to have my jersey retired and here I am taking out the trash...oh well," said Favre.

The event organizers say, at last year's Chalk Talk event, about 300 people bought tickets. This year, the attendance is estimated at 1,500.
