One store manager says Black Friday "better than expected;" officials hope for big sales on Cyber Monday

BROOKFIELD -- One store manager tells FOX6 News Black Friday 2015 was "better than expected." But the holiday shopping frenzy isn't over! Millions are expected to shop online on Cyber Monday (Monday, November 30th).

Cyber Monday occurs on the Monday following Thanksgiving -- and it is promoted by online retailers as a day for exceptional bargains.

By the end of the holiday weekend, traffic at Brookfield Square Mall was as casual as a Sunday drive.

"It's nice. No crowds. No lines," Rick Moncher of Wauwatosa said.

FOX6 News found Moncher browsing inside the Sears store -- shopping for his wife, and hoping to take advantage of the Black Friday discounts that seem to hang around longer each year.

"She definitely has a certain style. Sunday was definitely a great day to shop," Moncher said.

"Finally starting to settle down here at the store. Definitely heavy traffic. Better than what we expected too," Justin Hampton, assistant store manager at Sears said.

Hampton said Sunday, November 29th with Black Friday 2015 in the books -- appliances are still very popular among shoppers.

"That's where we attract a lot of foot traffic," Hampton said.

On Monday, shoppers can peruse online. Many retailers are offering exclusive "Cyber Monday" deals online.

"According to the National Retail Federation, online buying and browsing is going to be up about 46 percent this year," Frank Frassetto said.

That means nearly half of all holiday purchases won't happen in-store.

So as buyers belly-up to their laptops, officials with Wisconsin's Department of Consumer Protection say you should think before you click "purchase."

"If you are going to buy with a debit card, maybe use a pre-paid debit card because then your potential loss is going to be limited to whatever is on that card," Frassetto said.

Another tip: Know the return policy before buying online.

"Because shopping for two women in the family -- if I don't pick the right thing, I've got to send it back, so that's the number one thing," Moncher said.

As popular as online shopping is, officials with the Sears store in Brookfield say many shoppers still prefer to see the product in person before buying.

Some did some holiday shopping at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex Sunday, which hosted the annual "Holiday Craft & Gift Expo."

More than 200 vendors took part -- offering everything from hand-fashioned crafts and gifts, to confectionery treats.

In addition, the expo provided music and Santa Claus made an appearance!
