Normal operations resume at Naval Station Great Lakes after lockdown Tuesday afternoon

GREAT LAKES, Illinois -- Normal operations have resumed at the Naval Station Great Lakes on this Tuesday, December 8th after a lockdown and search for a troubled individual on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly before 2:00 p.m., officials received word via police dispatch that a troubled individual could possibly be on the base, and that he may have wanted to do himself harm.

Out of an abundance of caution, officials followed all procedures to ensure the safety of everyone on the base.

These procedures included instituting a lockdown and gate control procedures.

Once officials were able to confirm the troubled individual was not on the base, the base went back to normal operations.

The part of the base that was affected was the recruit/boot camp area.

The incident was wrapped up in about an hour.

The troubled individual was found not to be near the base.

We're told the base has 55 commands on board, and says 20,000 people work at the base every day.

Officials say everything worked the way it was supposed to when the base implemented its security procedures.
