Fire at MillerCoors packaging plant: Was it sparked by Holiday Lites display?

MILWAUKEE -- A fire occurred at the MillerCoors packaging plant near 41st and State on Monday evening, December 14th -- and it may have been a result of the Holiday Lites display.

The fire was able to be brought under control.

No injuries were reported.

MillerCoors officials were notified about this fire around 5:45 p.m.

MillerCoors spokeswoman Jackie Pride says employees handled much of the small fire themselves.

"They`re trained to extinguish a fire as much as they can -- but the fire department was here very quickly, on the scene within minutes," Pride said.

But still, Pride says the initial report of a fire led company officials to stop the entire brewing operation.

"We shut down production for safety reasons and evacuated all employees. Every employee was accounted for in about 20 minutes," Pride said.

Pride says the fire may have started as a result of the Holiday Lites display -- but added that company officials haven't yet confirmed that.

A battalion chief with the Milwaukee Fire Department says MFD is considering this an electrical fire. He said they lights had something to do with the fire -- but it's difficult to determine exactly how it started.

Pride says the fire was contained in less than 10 minutes, and the plant was reopened within less than an hour.

"Most importantly, nobody was hurt and we`ll be looking at the cause and investigating that in the days to come," Pride said.

Operations have resumed at the packaging plant, and officials say there was no significant damage.
