"It's a blessing:" Milwaukee Rescue Mission opens "Christmas Store" for its families

MILWAUKEE -- Making sure everyone has a gift for the holidays can put a strain on the family budget. However, on Wednesday, December 16th, hundreds of parents in Milwaukee got a little extra support to make this Christmas a joyful one for their kids.

The Milwaukee Rescue Mission turns into a toy store this time of year -- with gifts for boys and girls of all ages.

"It's a blessing," said Antoinette Grant. "I have been going through a lot lately and it's been unfortunate in a lot of ways."

Wrapped with love, each of these gifts will go to a family who might not otherwise have one.

As Grant shopped for her two sons, she said she's grateful for this option.

"I am here for my two kids and I still need to figure out stuff for my nieces and nephews, so they won't be left out," said Grant.

The gifts are free, and the "Christmas Store" is for all families served by the Milwaukee Rescue Mission -- from those living at the shelter, to those who go to the school or use the daycare.

"To show that we are family, and that they're not alone, and that in every season of life there is hope," said Jeremy Chapman, Milwaukee Rescue Mission.

There are plenty of toys to go around. Each family can take three toys per child. All of them have been donated to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.

"I can safely say we have received over 5,000 toys and donations from corporations, churches and individuals," said Chapman.

"It's a great help," said Grant.

The "Christmas Store" at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission runs through the end of the this week. The shelter is still accepting toy donations for teens or infants.
