Madison police officer faces corruption charge after sting operation

MADISON — Police and federal authorities in Madison say they have charged a city police officer with corruption.

They say the officer was arrested without incident Friday after a sting operation one day earlier.

They say the officer took almost $4,000 in cash from the trunk of a car after an undercover agent told him she was angry at her boyfriend for dealing drugs and that there might be money and cocaine in a parked car. The complaint says the officer removed the money and later called for a drug-sniffing dog, but didn't report the money.

The complaint says the sting was set up after a citizen tip in August that the officer might be planning a robbery with other people.
