Quite the blustery night: High winds lead to power outages, Christmas decor strewn about

We Energies officials say 15,000 customers were without power at the peak of the outages.

High winds can cause damage by taking down power lines, branches, and even trees. But with this wind storm hitting right before Christmas, the wind also took down some holiday displays.

A Grinch destroying holiday decorations right before Christmas? In southeastern Wisconsin -- the wind is to blame.

Terry Mack, who lives in Menomonee Falls, went out amid the high winds Wednesday night in an effort to rescue dozens of ornaments that had been carefully placed on a tree in his front yard.

"Every time I came out there were three more!" Mack said.

"We woke up this morning and saw they're scattered all over the yard!" Ceci Scheuber said.

Some nativity scenes didn't survive intact. Snowmen toppled -- and Snoopy even tipped over.

Many were out on Thursday fixing what Mother Nature tossed around.

"A neighbor texted us and said 'we think we have one of your ornaments in our yard' and they are three houses down. I always say 'I'm not doing it anymore -- but then I've had people stop from church and clap while I'm putting them up,'" Mack said.

From Wednesday's record-setting warmth, with a high of 58 degrees in Milwaukee, and then Wednesday night's high winds -- Mother Nature is making this a Christmas to remember.

"I'll put them all back up again. It's Christmas right? You have to," Mack said.

FOX6 News has received several reports of things like trampolines blowing into other yards due to the high winds.

Late Thursday afternoon, there were still some power outages showing on the We Energies Power Outage Map.
