Mazanec helps Admirals stuff Icehogs

MILWAUKEE -- Goalie Marek Mazanec stopped 33 shots to help the Milwaukee Admirals to a 2-1 shootout win over the Rockford IceHogs Saturday night.

Mazanec improved to 5-1-0 against the IceHogs this season with the victory. The Admirals goaltender stopped both Rockford shooters in the shootout.

After the game went through overtime, Kevin Fiala led off the shootout for the Ads by scoring his fourth shootout goal of the season. Frederick Gaudreau also scored as Milwaukee moved into a tie with Rockford for first place in the AHL’s Central Division. Gaudreau also scored Milwaukee’s lone goal during the game.

The Admirals scored the first goal of the game with a power play goal at :48 of the second period. Max Gortz was pressured along the left wing boards and tapped the puck to the left corner for Vinny Saponari. Saponari spied a wide-open Gaudreau in the slot and fed him a pass. Gaudreau released a low wrist shot into the net for his ninth goal of the season, sixth on the power play.

Rockford tied the game at 9:06 of the second period. Marko Dano fired a pass from the Admirals right corner to the front of the net for a tap-in by Chris DeSousa.
