City of Milwaukee DPW crews didn't start plowing until 2pm, while Highway Division got started at 10am

MILWAUKEE -- There were LOTS of crashes and disabled vehicles Monday, December 28th as a winter storm brought snow, sleet, freezing rain and high winds to southeastern Wisconsin.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials said between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to 48 crashes involving property damage, two crashes involving injury, and 81 disabled vehicles.

City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works crews began salting overnight and into Monday -- but didn't begin plowing until 2:00 p.m.

That's an interesting contrast from Milwaukee County's Highway Division. Crews started plowing at 10:00 a.m.

Officials with the DPW and Highway Division both say road conditions dictated their decision as to when to begin plowing.

The effort to clear streets in Milwaukee and Milwaukee County will continue overnight Monday and into Tuesday.
