High winds lead to high waves: Winter storm leaves behind damage along lakefront in Kenosha

KENOSHA -- A winter storm brought snow, sleet, freezing rain and high winds on Monday, December 28th, and left some damage behind along the lakefront in Kenosha.

Kenosha Department of Public Works officials confirmed for FOX6 News they were working on Tuesday to clean up the mess near the Southport Marina.

There's no word at this point as to a damage estimate.

The photos you'll see below were taken by Miguel Castro. He indicates high waves (over 10 feet) knocked down city lights, and flooded the bike trail in the area.

We saw high waves amid the high winds on Monday along Lake Michigan in Milwaukee as well.

National Weather Service officials said waves more than 10 feet high were possible along Lake Michigan as a result of wind gusts that could hit 40 to 50 miles-per-hour, prompting a Lakeshore Flood Advisory issued until midnight as a result of the potential for high waves and some flooding.
