"It's just win, win:" MADACC waives cat and dog adoption fees

MILWAUKEE -- If you're thinking about expanding your family by adding a four-legged friend, now is the time.

"That's the really rewarding thing to see, that animal in a home. So you're getting a lot. The animal is getting a lot. It's just win, win," said MADACC Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator Kathy Shillinglaw.

Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, or MADACC, is holding the Home for the Holidays Adoption Event, waiving all adoption fees on cats and dogs.

"A Iot of people think 'I'm adopting a dog. I don't want to adopt a dog in the winter because I'm going to have to potty train them in the winter,' but a lot of our dogs are adult dogs. They're already potty trained -- so for us that's not an issue," said Shillinglaw.

The promotion began December 15th and so far MADACC has adopted out about 200 cats and 20 dogs, but more pets still need good homes.

"Pets are unconditional love. They love to be petted. They love to be held. Research shows that petting animals actually helps you reduce stress," said Shillinglaw.

Along with waiving the adoption fee, the animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped.

MADACC is waiving its cat and dog adoption through January 10th and those who live in Milwaukee have to pay a $12 licensing fee.
