Top of semi trailer smashes into railroad overpass on Swan Boulevard in Wauwatosa

WAUWATOSA -- The top of a semi trailer smashed into a railroad overpass in Wauwatosa on Thursday afternoon, January 7th.

It happened on Swan Boulevard near the entrance to the Hoyt Park Pool -- just south of the Menomonee River Parkway shortly before 1:00 p.m.

Police say the semi was headed southbound when it struck the overpass.

The road is a "no trucking" street.

We're told the semi was hauling building materials for a foundry, but those materials weren't hazardous or concerning.

Swan Boulevard was closed to southbound traffic for a short time due to this incident.

A tow truck came to the scene to remove the semi.

The scene was cleared just before 4:00 p.m.

Police said they expected a citation would be issued against the semi's driver.

Canadian Pacific officials were notified, and they responded to the scene to inspect the bridge. It was found that there was no structural damage to the bridge.

The semi and driver involved are both from Wisconsin. The semi belongs to Time Transport out of Franksville.
