"You just need one lucky ticket:" Excitement is in the air ahead of $900M Powerball drawing

SOUTH MILWAUKEE -- The Powerball jackpot has reached a whopping $900 million just hours before Saturday night's drawing. Part of that is because of the surge in ticket sales. In Wisconsin this week alone, 11 million Powerball tickets were sold in anticipation for tonight's drawing.

It is the largest jackpot in U.S. history and it has people across the country lining up.

"Definitely. From 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., I did one ticket a minute -- one Powerball ticket a minute," said Kim Shaw Cable, Pick 'N Save employee.

Everyone wants in on the action.

"I'm ready. Ready to get this money," said Calvin Jones, Powerball player.

So aspiring millionaires flock to pick up their tickets. Janine Adamczyk is playing with some family luck on her side.

"My mom won the lottery in France over 60 years ago and that's how she came to the United States, so all she ever says is 'you just need one lucky ticket and the rest is history,'" said Adamczyk.

There have been a record 19 drawings since the last jackpot winner -- why is that? Because winning is rather hard, you're chances are 1 in 262.2 million. But that hasn't stopped people from playing.

"It's a very exciting time! This is certainly the largest jackpot in Powerball history and it's actually the largest jackpot in the U.S. history as well," said Wisconsin Lottery Spokesperson, Stephanie Marquis.

"It's almost so big you can't even imagine that amount," said James Ayling, Powerball player.

But if he wins he's got plans for every penny.

"Aside from helping myself and my family, there's a lot of people out there I can probably help, a lot of good causes out there," said Ayling.

If there is no jackpot winner in Saturday night's drawing, the grand prize rolls over again -- meaning the next jackpot could reach one billion dollars.
