Common Council committee approves $5M settlement for lawsuits claiming strip searches by MPD

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee Common Council committee has approved a $5 million settlement for lawsuits claiming unlawful body cavity and strip searches by police officers.

Now it must be approved by the full Common Council and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

After legal fees, 74 plaintiffs will get close to $2.7 million.

The settlement came after four Milwaukee police officers were fired and convicted of crimes connected to the cases.
