Senate committee OKs blaze pink for hunters

MADISON — A legislative committee has signed off on a bill that would allow gun deer hunters to wear fluorescent pink rather than their traditional blaze orange.

The Senate's agriculture committee approved the bill on a 7-2 vote on Wednesday, January 13th. The vote clears the way for a full vote on the Senate floor. The Assembly passed the bill on a voice vote in November.

Under current Wisconsin law, at least half of each article of clothing that gun deer hunters wear above the waist must be blaze orange. The bipartisan bill would allow hunters to wear fluorescent pink as well.

Supporters say the bill would help draw more women into hunting. Some women hunters contend the bill is sexist.
