Admirals snap four-game winless skid, and shutout the Rampage

MILWAUKEE -- Marek Mazanec recorded his second shutout of the season with 19 saves to help the Admirals to a 3-0 win over the San Antonio Rampage Friday night.

The win snapped a four-game winless skid (0-3-1-0) for the Admirals. It also extended San Antonio’s winless skid on home ice to 11 games (0-10-1-0).

Mazanec also recorded an assist on the Ads first goal of the game, giving him seven in his career. The seven assists, and points, are the most for an Admirals goalie since the team joined the AHL in 2001-02. He had been tied with current Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne.

The first goal of the game didn’t come until the second period. After San Antonio pressured the Admirals, Milwaukee was finally able to control the puck as both teams moved for a line change. Admirals defenseman Taylor Aronson spotted Vladislav Kamenev coming off Milwaukee’s bench. The stretch pass from the Admirals zone hit Kamenev at the Rampage blue line for a breakaway goal, Kamenev’s seventh goal of the season. Aronson and Mazanec were awarded the assists.

The Admirals made it 2-0 with a power play goal on the team’s eighth power play attempt of the game at 10:30 of the third period.. Taylor Aronson blocked away a clearing attempt at the Rampage blue line. The puck found its way to Cody Hodgson at the right circle. Hodgson dished the puck to Kamenev at the right post and he quickly fed Colton Sissons in the slot for a one-timer goal. The goal was Sissons’ fifth of the season and third on the power play.

Admirals forward Adam Payerl closed the scoring as he converted a turnover in front of the Rampage goal at 17:27 of the third period for his seventh goal of the season.

The Admirals and San Antonio meet again Sat., Jan. 16 in San Antonio.

Milwaukee’s next home game is Sat., Jan. 30 against the Grand Rapids Griffins at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
