Demond Means, superintendent of the Mequon-Thiensville School District, said this in the letter to parents:

"January 21, 2016

MTSD Staff and Families,

The Mequon-Thiensville School District has made the decision to cancel classes at Homestead High School for tomorrow, Friday, January 22, 2016. Classes are canceled due to a threat made specific to the high school for tomorrow.

Homestead High School

The Mequon Police Department is currently investigating the threat. We are working closely with MPD in every way possible. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, which is why we made the decision to cancel classes.

The threat was made through a social media site. Administrators were made aware of the threat Thursday afternoon. Although the threat was removed from the site, school officials take the threat seriously.

In light of the situation, MTSD is taking the following actions:

• Classes at Homestead High School are canceled for Friday, January 22 for all students and staff.

• All other schools will remain open. Parents and students can expect to see a greater police presence at them tomorrow.

• MTSD is working closely with the Mequon Police Department to provide security screenings and a large police presence when Homestead High School reopens.

• At this time, a decision will be made by noon on the status of evening activities at Homestead High School for Friday, January 22.

The district will provide updates via email as appropriate."
