HDR, UHD, 4K: Here’s what you need to know before buying a new big screen TV

MILWAUKEE -- Super Bowl is a great excuse to upgrade your TV - here's what you need to know before you buy.

According to a FatWallet.com survey, more people who want to buy a TV think Super Bowl is a better time for deals than Black Friday.

We talked to Brian Kahn of HomeTheaterReview.com about the latest TV terms including 4K, UHD, OLED and more. His advice - even though 4K content is still scarce, go for a 4K set since manufacturers are putting their best electronics behind these cutting-edge screens.

Skip the Curved TV - these haven't caught on as fast as manufacturers had hoped. They're more expensive and for now the curve doesn't necessarily offer any advantage over the "wow" factor for your guests.

One thing you must do is calibrate your TV when you get it home. This means diving into the picture settings and adjusting the color, contrast and other sliders to make your picture look it's best. You can find settings for your TV by searching for your "TV model + calibration" or buying a calibration DVD.

I also found a set of calibration videos on YouTube which I will be trying on my TV later today!
