"A tragic loss:" Police identify young woman struck by vehicle in Waukesha

WAUKESHA -- Waukesha police released on Friday, February 5th the name of the victim struck by a vehicle near Highway 164 and Sunset Dr. She is 23-year-old Megan Bock.

Bock was struck just before 6 p.m. on Thursday. Police say when first responders arrived at the scene, they located the woman who had been hit by a vehicle.

The tragic scene was accompanied by a heartwarming one. Several bystanders had stopped -- and were administering CPR to the victim.

"The community really came together to help that person on their final day," said Joseph Hoffman, Battalion Chief for Waukesha Fire Department.

Hoffman says citizens taking action can really make a difference.

"We've had numerous documented saves based on our citizens being involved with our city and our community," Hoffman said.

Hoffman said this allows the paramedics to do their best job.

"Giving us great information about what they had seen and what they had been doing so far before their arrival," said Hoffman. "Our crews then seamlessly integrated into their delivery of care, transferred that patient and continued CPR."

Unfortunately, in this case, all the life-saving efforts were unsuccessful -- and Bock was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The family of the victim issued the following statement through the police department:

"Megan Bock, 23 was a part of a loving family. We’ve suffered a tragic loss and appreciate our privacy during this time."

The driver of the vehicle did stop -- and is cooperating with police. Officials say no arrests were made -- and no citations have been given.

A Waukesha Police Accident Reconstruction Specialist was called in to investigate the crash. Waukesha police closed northbound Highway 164 north of Sunset for several hours.
