MILWAUKEE -- Explore the science of you! Laura spent the morning at Discovery World to check out its new exhibit Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code.

Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code (website)

Let’s get very small for a moment. Inside your cells is a surprisingly large and staggeringly important molecule called DNA. This molecule contains the code, the blueprint, the unique set of instructions for making you. In fact, DNA is the unique set of instructions for making every living thing on Earth. Every person’s DNA is slightly different. Every creature’s DNA is a little bit more different. How do we decode our DNA? What happens when we understand these instructions?

Created by the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and the National Human Genome Research Institute, this 4,400 sq. ft. exhibit allows you to explore the secrets of the Human Genome. How does DNA work? How do our cells translate this code into Life? How is genome sequencing revolutionizing medicine? How does decoding the Human Genome help us understand ourselves and the natural world?

Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code also allows you to explore our shared human ancestry through time, the history of DNA research, and the common threads that connect all life on Earth. This amazing exhibit is perfect for the entire family.
