"Dog Day Afternoon:" Admirals win 2-1 in shootout vs. the Iowa Wild

MILWAUKEE -- In front of hundreds of dogs for the team's annual Dog Day Afternoon Juuse Saros stopped 18 saves in regulation and overtime and denied all three Iowa attempts in the shoot-out to lead the Admirals to a 2-1 shoot-out win over Wild on Sunday afternoon, February 21st at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Milwaukee's Matt White was the only player to score in the shoot-out when he slid the puck five-hole on Iowa goalie Leland Irving. Immediately after White scored Saros turned away Zac Dalpe and the Ads snapped their brief two-game losing streak.

Things didn't look good for the Ads to even get to overtime. Late in the third period Pontus Aberg was whistled for hooking and then 30 seconds later Taylor Aronson has sent to the box for four minutes for high-sticking giving Iowa 90 seconds of 5-on-3 time and 2:57 power-play. Milwaukee's PK unit, who have killed off 36 of their last 39 attempts, was up to the task and the team's remained tied after regulation.

After a scoreless first period Pontus Aberg put the Ads at 7:10 of the middle frame. With the puck in the Milwaukee zone Max Reinhart forced a turnover that sprung he and Aberg on a two-on-one. Reinhart chipped the puck to Aberg, who went backhand to beat Iowa goalie Lelend Irving stick side.

It was Aberg's team-leading 14th goal of the season and the 30th of his career.

However Iowa's Marc Hagel picked up a rebound goal with 11:08 to play in the game to level the score at one. It was the Wild's first goal against Milwaukee in nearly six periods.

The shoot-out win was the Admirals sixth in six tries this season.

The Admirals continue a four-game homestand this week, including their next contest on Wednesday night, February 24th against first-place Rockford at 7:00 p.m.
