Wangard proposes five-story office building, 12-story hotel on Laacke & Joys site

MILWAUKEE -- Wangard Partners is planning a five-story office development and a future 12-story hotel on the former Laacke & Joys property in the Park East corridor near downtown Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee developer would demolish much of the four-story Laacke & Joys building that lines South Water Street adjacent to the Milwaukee River to clear land for the new office building, according to plans submitted to the city of Milwaukee this week. It also would demolish a neighboring one-story garage building.

The proposed five-story new office would connect with an existing four-story brick building on the southwestern portion of the Laacke & Joys site. In the future, Wangard plans to eventually build a 12-story hotel on the northern portion of the site. Until that happens, the land would serve as a parking lot to serve office tenants in the new building.
