One killed in head-on crash involving three vehicles in Washington Co.; alcohol believed a factor

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Washington County Sheriff's officials say one person was killed and a second person was hurt in a crash involving three vehicles that happened on Highway 33, east of Highway WW in the Town of Addison in Washington County.

It happened on Sunday, March 6th around 3:15 p.m.

Sheriff's officials say one person was pronounced dead at the scene. That person was trapped in their vehicle and had to be extricated.

A second person was hurt, but that person wasn't trapped -- suffering non-life threatening injuries.

A third vehicle was involved in this crash but two occupants of that vehicle were not hurt.

The Allenton Fire and Rescue Department assisted with extrication and patient assessments at the scene.

An initial investigation has revealed an eastbound vehicle operated left of the center line -- resulting in a head-on crash with a westbound vehicle.

After striking the westbound vehicle, the eastbound vehicle continued traveling east and made minor contact with a second westbound vehicle.

The driver of the first westbound vehicle that was struck was killed.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle suffered a non-life threatening injury.

Sheriff's officials say alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in this crash.

Highway 33 was closed to traffic for four-and-a-half hours as a result of this crash.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office's Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the investigation.

Sheriff's officials say this is Washington County's third traffic fatality in 2016.
