St. Rose and St. Leo Catholic School evacuated due to bomb threat

St. Rose and St. Leo Catholic School

MILWAUKEE — St. Rose and St. Leo Catholic School was evacuated Tuesday morning, March 8th after a bomb threat was called into the school.

According to school officials, around 8:15 a.m. an unidentified person called St. Rose and St. Leo Catholic School stating that there was a bomb in the building. The police were called immediately.

The administration then evacuated students from the building.  The administration and support staff then checked the entire building to verify all students were evacuated.

All students were escorted to Marquette University High School, which is two blocks from St. Rose and St. Leo.

Jim Piatt, president of Messmer Catholic Schools and St. Rose and St. Leo Catholic School said this in a statement:

At 8:14 a.m. Tuesday, March 8th, an unidentified person called St. Rose and St. Leo School stating that there was a bomb in the building.  The police were called immediately by Principal Kristen Merry. No other information was given on the phone call. The caller hung up immediately.

The administration then evacuated students out and away from the building.  The administration and support staff then checked the entire building to verify all students were evacuated.  Then all students were escorted to Marquette University High School, which is two blocks from Saint Rose and St. Leo.

Marquette has a standing offer to host our students in the event of an evacuation.

As of 9:00 a.m., the police officers on the scene were preparing to investigate the building.  No students or staff would be returned to the building until the police and our staff have cleared the building.

Your children will be fed and cared for at Marquette High until that time.  If you would like to pick up your child early, you may do so at Marquette University High School, at 3306 West Michigan Avenue, Gordon Henke entrance.  You will be escorted to the gym to sign your child out personally.

If you are unable or do not wish to get your child early, they will be transported home at the regular time at the end of the day.
