Six people displaced after fire in apartment building near 56th and Mill Road

MILWAUKEE -- Six people were displaced by a fire that happened inside an eight-unit apartment building near 56th and Mill Road.

The call for this fire came in shortly after 6:00 p.m.

We're told an elderly person was living on the first floor in a unit where the fire broke out.

That person was able to get out safely.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

One unit in the building has been deemed a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire officials say there were no working smoke detectors in the building.
