The fire was put out, and officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department tell FOX6 News only one of the apartment complex's buildings was affected, and four units in that building were impacted.

We're told a few people were treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The American Red Cross was called out to the scene to assist residents. MCTS buses were at the scene for displaced residents as they waited to learn whether they would be allowed back in their homes. Some were waiting for a ride to a hotel for the night.

A Red Cross spokeswoman said they were assisting between 50 to 100 people.

The Red Cross opened a reception center at Our Savior Lutheran Church (at 3022 W. Wisconsin Avenue) for those affected by the fire.
