HALES CORNERS -- It was a record-breaking year at the Boerner Botanical Gardens on Easter Sunday, March 27th, which hosted its annual Easter Brunch. The event included a delicious meal, and fun for the whole family.
The Easter Bunny welcomed folks to the Boerner Botanical Gardens on Easter Sunday, and passed out treats during the "Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens" annual event.
"It`s for all ages. We have kids' crafts, so it's very kid-friendly and we want the parents to come out and enjoy the time with their families and kids," Jeanna Patterson with "Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens" said.
The event has become a tradition for the Axtell family.
"We love Boerner Botanical Gardens. It`s a good thing we can do with our family. We`ve been coming here the last four years," Chris Axtell said.
More than 980 people came out to enjoy this year's feast -- a home-cooked meal that took months to prepare.
"We opened up a half-hour early this year, and it really brought a lot more people. We have a team of 62 working today and the kitchen has been here since 5, 6 o`clock this morning, Steph Zilli, director of operations for Zilli Hospitality Group said.
Kathy Czerwonka and her family took part in the Easter Brunch for the first time. They opted to leave the cooking and cleaning to the Zilli Hospitality Group this Easter Sunday.
"That was perk right there for me. It`s very nice. It's a good day," Czerwonka said.
The Boerner Botanical Gardens officially open for the season on April 30th.
