Suspect in fatal crash released from custody; D.A.'s office collecting more evidence

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee firefighter who has been in jail for his alleged role in a fatal crash has been released from custody.

The crash happened Monday night, April 4th near 60th and Pierce in West Allis. Police said the pickup truck driven by the off-duty firefighter struck a van as it was making a left turn.

Two people in the van died.

The 31-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. But the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office made the decision earlier Friday to release the man -- pending further investigation.

The D.A.'s office said it needed to collection additional evidence before making a charging decision.
