Father of our national park system: "John Muir" exhibit on display at Oak Creek Public Library

OAK CREEK -- A "John Muir" exhibit has opened at the Oak Creek Public Library.

The exhibit celebrates the life and legacy of the man considered by many to be the father of our national park system.

Born in Scotland, the conservationist spent much of his life in Wisconsin -- even studying at UW in Madison.

Members of the Wisconsin Historical Society say it is there that Muir's love of nature grew.

He worked closely with President Theodore Roosevelt to make wilderness conservation a national priority.

Muir also co-founded the "Sierra Club," helping to create the national park system.

"I hope they get to see Wisconsin is a very important part of the national story of national parks and we hope that they`ll come and want to keep coming to programs we have," Sarah Corso with the Oak Creek Public Library said.

Free copies of Muir's autobiography will be handed out during an event on April 20th.
