More than 5,000 surgeries in less than a year for Wisconsin Humane Society Spay/Neuter Clinic

MILWAUKEE -- The Wisconsin Humane Society's Spay/Neuter Clinic has reached a milestone -- making a difference in the lives of more than 5,000 cats and dogs.

A litter of nine-week-old Chihuahua Rat Terriers was about to get spayed and neutered Monday, April 18th at the Wisconsin Humane Society's Spay/Neuter Clinic.

The clinic opened in June 2015.

In less than a year, Wisconsin Humane Society veterinarians have performed more than 5,000 surgeries in the new space. They offer the surgeries at a fraction of the cost of a private clinic: $75 for a cat and $105 for a dog.

"Because it is something we focus on so much, we learn all the latest techniques," said Dr. Nancy Weiss, WHS senior director of veterinary services.

And they're gearing up for a busy spring and summer.

"It means a lot. It really can affect how many animals are coming into our shelter campuses. It also keeps animals in their homes longer, which is always what we want," said Dr. Weiss.

Before this clinic opened, it used to take about three months to get an appointment, but now you can get in this week.

And they're expanding quickly, with five new hires, including a second full-time veterinarian, to be able to accommodate even more families and rescues.

For the dogs and cats, it all means a forever home that much faster.

If you would like to make an appointment at the Wisconsin Humane Society's Spay/Neuter Clinic, you can do so over the phone or online.
