WASHINGTON COUNTY — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a driver who fled the scene of a crash early Tuesday morning, April 26th. The vehicle involved in the crash was reported stolen out of the city of Milwaukee, and officials say it was involved in a shooting there.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, authorities were dispatched to the 5600 block of State Highway 60 in the Town of Hartford around 4 a.m. for the report of a vehicle that traveled through several yards and cut through a telephone pole —  ripping off the front driver’s side wheel.

Power lines in the area were also down and We Energies had to respond to the scene.

Authorities say the vehicle came to rest 300 feet from where it left the roadway. One of the property owners believed the accident occurred at 3 a.m. as she thought she may have heard the collision.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported as stolen out of the city of Milwaukee. It was also determined the vehicle was involved in a shooting in the city of Milwaukee.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office for the use of a tracking K-9, but the operator was not located after the K-9 tracked for over an hour. The Hartford Police Department also assisted at the scene.

Any citizens with information are encouraged to contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 262-335-4420.

The investigation continues as the Sheriff’s Office works with investigators from the Milwaukee Police Department.
