Milwaukee police officer arrested in connection with child enticement case



MILWAUKEE --  Milwaukee police tell FOX6 News they have arrested Sonthana Rajaphoumi in connection with a child enticement case.

Officials say 45-year-old Rajaphoumi is a Milwaukee police officer assigned to District 4.

Rajaphoumi was booked into the Milwaukee County Jail on Friday, April 29th. His bail was set at $10,000.

Officials say this investigation is ongoing and Milwaukee police will present the case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days for charges.

In the meantime, Rajaphoumi is suspended from the Milwaukee Police Department.

FOX6 News spoke with neighbors of Rajaphoumi, who said they were shocked to learn he had been arrested.

"It's not what I would expect at all. I hope it's a misunderstanding. I think everyone is going to be shocked and upset, disappointed and scared," a neighbor said.

One neighbor, who did not want to show her face or share her name with FOX6 News said Rajaphoumi is known in the neighborhood as "Sam," and that he is well-liked.

"Seems like a regular, family guy, nice guy," the neighbor said.

Several neighbors told FOX6 News Rajaphoumi seemed like a good husband and father.

"They're always out there inviting friends over, family stuff, kids play in the backyard," a neighbor said.

No one answered the door at Rajaphoumi's home.

One neighbors asked that people not rush to judgement until all of the evidence is known.

"I hope it's a misunderstanding. I always like to think the best of people and I really hope it is," a neighbor said.
