Kohl's shopping spree for survivors ahead of "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" Walk

BROOKFIELD -- The "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" Walk is Saturday, May 7th, and to get ready for the big event, dozens of breast cancer survivors on Wednesday, May 4th went on a shopping spree.

Kohl's invited 80 survivors and top event participants to take part.

They went shopping at the Brookfield Kohl's store with a $250 gift card -- and there was no shortage of pink as the shoppers picked shirts, pants, shoes and water bottles.

Many of the women also bonded through their shared experiences.

Kohl's says it was a no-brainer for them to get involved in the cause.

"We know it's a huge issue here in Milwaukee. We know that many women and men will be diagnosed in the next year with breast cancer, so we are just honored to be in a position to be able to help those folks and the community and really show our support for the cause," Tara Geiter, Kohl's director of community relations said.

The 2016 "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" Walk will be held on Saturday morning along Milwaukee's lakefront.

FOX6's Mary Stoker Smith will be emceeing the event.
