88-year-old woman dies days after three-vehicle crash in Dodge County

DODGE COUNTY --  The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred May 4th in the Township of Portland. The three-vehicle crash occurred on STH 89 at intersection with CTH T.

Preliminary investigation shows that the driver of a 2007 Jeep traveling east on STH 89 failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection with CTH T. The Jeep struck a 2003 Dodge, which was northbound on CTH T.

Authorities say the Jeep was forced into the CTH T southbound traffic lane, where it struck a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck, which was stopped at the posted stop sign.

All three drivers sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Officials say 88-year-old Helen Henkel of Waterloo was a passenger in the front seat of the Jeep. Following the crash, she was transported by Waterloo EMS to Columbus Hospital, but was later transferred to UW Hospital in Madison. On Monday, May 9th, Henkel died while at UW Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Medical Examiner and the Dodge County Crash Investigation Team.
