57-year-old Bayside man accused of soliciting sex from underage boys online

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- A 57-year-old Bayside man faces a charge of "using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime" -- accused of sexual contact with a then-16-year-old boy he met on Craigslist, and soliciting sex from another boy. He was arrested when he allegedly showed up to meet an underage boy.

Steven Sand made his initial appearance in court on Wednesday, May 18th in "out of custody intake court." $5,000 cash bond was posted. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 31st. Sand has been ordered to have no contact with the victim in this case, or any child under the age of 17. He cannot use the internet for purposes other than his business.

According to a search warrant affidavit filed in this case, police spoke with the then-16-year-old victim on April 28th, who indicated that he met Sand on Craigslist, and that he and Sand had "engaged in sexual contact for money on numerous occasions" at Sand's home in Bayside.

The search warrant says Sand inquired about the victim's first sexual experience, and the victim indicated it was with a friend who was 13 at the time. The warrant says the victim told police Sand had expressed interest in meeting his friend.

The warrant indicates that police posed as the victim's 15-year-old friend online, and a "sexually explicit text message and phone conversation occurred" involving Sand.

Sand is accused of making arrangements to pick up this individual on May 11th. Sand was taken into custody on May 11th after arriving at a gas station near Holton and Keefe Avenue.
