Brewers beat Cubs, take the series

MILWAUKEE - A depleted Brewers team, was able to win today and take 2 out of 3 against the NL Central Division leading Chicago Cubs. The Brewers held on to beat the Cubs by a score of 5 to 3. Junior Guerra pitched 7 innings, allowing just 3 runs. The bullpen was able to not give up a run, although both relievers allowed runners to get into scoring position. Tyler Thornburg picked up his first career save, giving Jeremy Jeffress the day off. Chris Carter and Kirk Nieuwenhuis both hit home runs to spur the offense.

Outfielders Ryan Braun and Domingo Santana were both out of the lineup today, dealing with injuries. Braun has a sore back, Santana has right shoulder soreness. Catcher Jonathan Lucroy also was not in the starting lineup, but did pinch hit in the 8th.

The Brewers now head to New York to take on the Mets for a 3-game series this weekend.
