All lanes closed on I-43 SB at Pioneer Road

OZAUKEE COUNTY — Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation say all lanes were temporarily blocked on I-43 SB at County C (Pioneer Road) on Monday afternoon, May 23rd as a result of a fatal crash.

It happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. and involved a single vehicle.

An initial investigation has revealed a Milwaukee man was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer on I-43 northbound, north of Mequon Road in Mequon when, witnesses reported, the vehicle’s tire blew — causing the driver to lose control of his vehicle. The vehicle rolled over and struck the median barrier, coming to rest in the southbound lanes of I-43.

The driver and front seat passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A female passenger in the rear seat was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of her injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
