West Point, N.Y. – This might not be the best time to send a text or update your status.

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point held its graduation this weekend, and a video posted by the school has drawn the wrath of many veterans. The clip has been watched more than 500,000 times.

Near the end of the clip, a female cadet appears to be texting on her phone as the group marches in formation.

There are over 800 comments on the video, many of them expressing outrage:

“Congrats but obviously a few of the graduating cadets need to realize the gratitude and reverence of the uniform and that you serve a greater cause!! Texting on a cell phone?? Unless that was about a credible threat to the U S security PUT IT DOWN!”

“As a veteran, I want to know why are the cadets allowed to use cell phones while in formation? I am embarrassed for them and the new military standards. obviously the uniform does not mean much to them.”

“There was more discipline in formation from my High School ROTC unit. God help us if this will our military leaders.”

Others tried to defend the woman:

“In the end, regarding the self own use, we still should remember that they are just college graduates just like any other college graduate and in today’s climate the cell phone is like a extension of their persona. Pretty soon their lives will be on the line and I’m sure their phones will not be available to them. Congratulations to the class of 2016 Godspeed and may you stay safe and thank you for your service!”

First of all “Truth Hurts” ….. either a Woman or a Trans???…… That in it self is disrespectful …..I am a woman and agree whole heartedly with the VETS! Put the phone down it is disrespectful to the uniform period no matter WHO it is! you can wait until the ceremonies are done to update your status or txt your friends!

Absolutely no respect. I’ve seen young people out together for a coffee at the same table-no one’s chatting with each other-not even LOOKING at each other or the world around them. (this is a good opportunity for you wallet and purse snatchers) All heads down over their phones texting away. Remember the dirty looks and the, “Tell your friends not to call when we are having supper!” when we were young the land line would ring while having supper with our mom and dad and siblings? You weren’t allowed to answer. You had to wait if they called back or tell them in person the next time you saw them. Today kids bring their phones to the table right along with mom and dad-gotta check the scores, stocks, face book, etc. Grandpa (me) does NOT except that. They are off and put in the bedroom while we eat. It’s a 1/2 hour. So for our military upstarts its, “Wait, Sarge. I’m almost leveled here. OK what was the command again? Fight? Retreat? uhhh.” The USA lost a major battle today against ISIS but did level at Candy Crush.
