Cristian Loga-Negru reaches plea deal in death of wife who fled to Mount Pleasant to hide from him

RACINE — An Illinois man accused of hacking his wife to death in Wisconsin has taken a plea deal, more than a month before he was slated to go on trial.

Cristian Loga-Negru

The Journal Times of Racine reports that 39-year-old Cristian Loga-Negru, of Arlington Heights, Illinois, pleaded no contest Friday, May 27th to first-degree intentional homicide in the 2014 slaying. He's accused of killing 36-year-old Roxana Abrudan in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, where she went to stay with her boss to hide from her husband.

Despite the plea deal, Loga-Negru will still stand trial in July.

The judge will determine whether he had a mental disease or some other mental condition that left him unable to understand at the time that his alleged actions were wrong.

Loga-Negru's attorney says the defendant is currently competent.
