National Weather Service: EF1 tornado hit Village of Brandon, causing damage

VILLAGE OF BRANDON — A tornado struck the downtown area of the Village of Brandon on Friday night, May 27th, the National Weather Service has confirmed.


The National Weather Service said Saturday morning, May 28th that an EF1 tornado hit Brandon, a village of about 1,000 people in Fond du Lac County, around 5:40 p.m. on Friday. An EF1 tornado is the second weakest tornado on the Fujita scale, packing winds up to 112 miles per hour.



About 25 homes suffered the most severe damage, with windows knocked out or roof damage. There were also power lines and trees knocked down.

Fond du Lac County officials said a four to six block area was damaged in downtown Brandon due to this incident, including residential property damage, trees and shingles.

The entire Village of Brandon was without power as of 9:00 p.m. Friday.

Brandon School also experienced wind damage, which caused a small section of shingles and roof to be lifted off.



No one was injured.
