Kenosha Co. officials due in court Tuesday -- an hour before violent sex offender to be released in Wheatland

WHEATLAND -- Efforts in Kenosha County to keep a violent sex offender from moving into a home in Wheatland will come down to the wire. Officials are due in court Tuesday, May 31st -- an hour before the offender is scheduled to be released.

Michael McGee

At the center of it all is Michael McGee.

In 1987, McGee broke into a woman's home and raped her. He was also accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old relative.

Now that he has served time, the state is trying to place him in a home in Wheatland. The issue is that he would be living right next door to the Rogers family and their one-year-old son. That would be a violation of Wheatland's sex offender ordinance -- but the state has already OK'd the placement -- and a judge has approved it.

Officials in the Town of Wheatland have tried to prevent the move, but they have lost all of their legal battles -- and now, Kenosha County officials have stepped in.

They will argue their case before a judge on Tuesday morning.

Mark Rogers

When FOX6 News talked with Mark Rogers on Friday, May 27th, he said he is preparing for a major lifestyle change.

"I can't leave this home with my family here knowing what's next door. I will not take a chance to let anything happen to them at all. I'm a father first before anything," Rogers said.

An attorney familiar with this case tells FOX6 News if Kenosha County officials aren't successful Tuesday morning, they'll immediately file an appeal.

But for now, McGee is expected to move into the home someone Tuesday afternoon.
