"Make the community aware:" 64-year-old sex offender set to be released in Waukesha

WAUKESHA -- A sex offender is about to be released but his address is unknown. He is going to live on the streets of Waukesha when his sentence ends next week.

Adam Zastrow plays with his youngest daughter at a Waukesha park Friday afternoon.

"I think it's a fantastic community. I love the parks in the area," said Zastrow.

The father of three says he and his wife focus on instilling "practical wisdom" in their girls, so they know how to stay safe.

"You don't need to be afraid of strangers but you need to respect that sometimes there are bad strangers and we don't want to say anything more than 'hi' to them," said Zastrow.

FOX6 News approached Zastrow with the news that a convicted sex offender would soon be released in the community. 64-year-old Rickie Nickerson has multiple convictions. His most recent offense involved repeated acts of sexual assault against the same child.

"We don't know his propensity to reoffend but you know if he served his sentence and he gets out and doesn't commit any more crimes, we all win. But being he has a history of multiple convictions we do want to make sure that the community is aware of that," said Captain Patrick Esser, Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities say Nickerson will be homeless when he gets out on Tuesday, June 7th -- but he will be wearing a GPS device.

"Probation and parole is going to be monitoring his location, confirming that it's consistent with where he's staying and where he's saying he's staying," said Captain Esser.
