"We grew up here:" Nine displaced after fire near 24th & Vienna spreads to second home
MILWAUKEE -- Three families were left homeless after a two-alarm fire that happened at a home near 24th and Vienna -- and spread to a second home early Thursday morning, June 9th.
The fire broke out just after 12:30 a.m.
Fire officials believe the fire started in the front corner of one home -- before spreading to the second home.
The damage is estimated at $225,000, and nine people were left homeless. The good news in this case is that no one was hurt.
There were four people in the home where the fire started -- and another five in the one next door. All occupants were outside by the time the fire department arrived on scene.
Don Bond couldn't believe the damage when he saw it in the daylight.
"I`m just breathless. I don`t like what I see," Bond said.

Bond's father owns the house where the fire started. His aunt and cousin lived on the first floor.
"They left with nothing. Everything was in that house," Bond said. "My uncle lives next door, and his house also caught fire. It was terrifying."
Bond said he raced to the scene after learning of the fire.
"Rushed fast, quick, in a hurry," Bond said. "I wasn`t really too much concerned about the house as I was about my family."

Bond said the home was supposed to one day be his. He expected to become the fifth generation in his family to own it.
"We grew up here -- so it`s terrible that this happened," Bond said.
Bond said he's just grateful no one was hurt or killed.
"Material things can be replaced -- but life can`t be replaced, so I`m just glad everybody made it out alive," Bond said.
