Wauwatosa City Council signs off on Milwaukee County's bus "rapid transit" proposal

WAUWATOSA -- The Wauwatosa City Council on Tuesday, June 21st signed off on Milwaukee County's plan to implement a bus rapid transit system.

A spokeswoman with the Milwaukee County Executive's Office told FOX6 News the vote was 105.

The council's Transportation Committee passed it earlier in June.

The rapid transit system would run between downtown Milwaukee and the Regional Medical Center.

It involves bus-only lanes that Milwaukee County officials say will get people to their destinations more quickly.

The proposed route would run from Milwaukee's Lakefront to the area near Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Half of the $40 million price-tag would come from the feds.

The next step involves a vote by the City of Milwaukee's Public Works Committee on this proposal.
