"What's happening?" Bodies of four men recovered in Kenosha in a month's time



KENOSHA -- The bodies of four men have been recovered in Kenosha County in just over a month's time.

Below is a timeline of these incidents:


    The sheer number of death investigations taking place within a short period of time in Kenosha County is concerning -- some residents say.

    "Used to be pretty much a known thing that, you know, this kind of stuff didn't happen here," Jerry Pfeifer said. "We wonder what's happening with the security of our town."

    Body pulled from Lake Michigan in Kenosha Harbor on June 20th



    The latest incident happened Monday, June 20th -- when U.S. Coast Guard officials and members of the Pleasant Prairie Fire Department worked to recover the body of an adult male from Lake Michigan in the Kenosha Harbor.

    "The Coast Guard came in. There was helicopters, flying over top for a good 15 minutes to a half-hour," Roy Randalls Jr. said.

    Coast Guard officials say members of the Pleasant Prairie Fire Department pulled the man’s body from the water. He was found on rocks near the break wall in the Kenosha Harbor.

    Police say the investigation is ongoing. The victim has not been identified.

    This incident occurred after a man's body was discovered one day prior -- on Sunday, June 19th in the area of 18th Avenue and 62nd Street.

    Police say the We Energies employees were working on a repair in the area when they spotted the body of an adult male in a vehicle shortly before 11:00 a.m.



    Police were dispatched to the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.

    A body recovered from Pike Creek near Carthage College in Kenosha on May 30th was identified as that of 51-year-old Brian Jurkowski of Kenosha.

    The cause of death remains unknown and detectives are awaiting toxicology results.

    The body of 39-year-old Steven Kortright of Kenosha was found following a brush fire on May 18th in Simmons Island Park on Kennedy Drive near 45th Street on May 18th.

    Kenosha police and fire officials were called out the park around 12:40 a.m. for reports of a brush fire. When the fire was extinguished, officers located a burned body.

    The medical examiner was notified.

    Police said after this incident they did not believe there was any danger to the public and the incident remains under investigation.

    "I think we're all alert, you know, to be watching where we're going when we take our bike rides, you know -- try and be careful," Pfeifer said.

    Kenosha police tell FOX6 News they continue to investigate each incident -- but they say Kortwright's death is believed to be accidental.

    "I hope to God that this is the end of it for this year, for sure," Pfeifer said.
