Summerfest 2016: Everything you need to know about getting into the Big Gig

MILWAUKEE -- Summerfest 2016 is here! The Big Gig will officially kick off on Wednesday, June 29th — with the gates opening at noon.

Officials with the Milwaukee County Transit System are reminding you that you don’t have to take your vehicle to Summerfest. You can instead take an MCTS bus.

MCTS offers local routes from Bay View, Bronzeville or the East Side, the Summerfest Shuttle from downtown or a Freeway Flyer from the suburbs.

If you’d like to drive yourself to Summerfest, there’s an app for that too.

“You pretty much just compare prices on a map, pick a location that looks good to you and then you reserve it right from your phone,” Suzannah Rubinstein with SpotHero said.

The app is called SpotHero, and can be downloaded for free on Apple or Android devices. If you’d like to use SpotHero, there is a promo code available for first-time users going to Summerfest. That promo code is SUMMERFEST16. You’ll receive $5 off your first spot.

You can help FOX6, Johnson Controls and Summerfest "Stomp Out Hunger" in southeast Wisconsin.

On the opening day of Summerfest, Wednesday, June 29th, donate three (3) non-perishable food items between noon and 3:00 p.m. and you’ll receive one (1) free weekday admission ticket to get into Summerfest FREE that day.  (Please note:  the free admission ticket is good for admission to Summerfest on June 29th only, between the hours of noon and 3:00 p.m.)

Donations will be accepted at the Mid-Gate promotions Booth as well as at the North and South Gates.  All donations will benefit Hunger Task Force.

Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of your favorite FOX6 personalities!  They’ll be at the mid-gate to say hello and thank you for your donations.  Come on out, say hello and help those in need this summer. Kim, Jessob, Nicole and Rob will be there from 11:15 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.; Mary and Ted will be on-hand noon till 1:00 p.m.; and Weather Experts Tom and Stephanie will accept your donations from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. (appearance schedule subject to change).

Thanks for supporting Johnson Controls "Stomp Out Hunger" day with FOX6!
